COLOMBIA
Colombia's Peace Accords were signed with the FARC in 2016, but this has not translated to peace on the ground. With over seven million internally displaced people, Colombia has one of the largest displaced populations in the world. This number continues to increase each year, a result of the ongoing armed conflict, illegal armed groups, corporate land grabs and the illicit drugs trade.
In 2019-2020 I travelled to Colombia on behalf of Forest Peoples Programme to document the stories of indigenous, Afro descendant and peasant communities across the country. Some had been displaced, some had been able to return to their lands after two decades, and most lived in fear of losing their homes or their lives as powerful banana, sugar cane and oil palm corporations sought ever larger areas of land.
