Uganda
I was working with the Uganda Wildlife Authority and USAID in 2010-11, and was lucky enough to travel to many of the country's national parks. Uganda's Rift Valley is filled with incredibly lush landscapes, ancient volcanic craters, hippo-filled lakes and the beginnings of the River Nile.
There are many different languages spoken by the communities that live here - and each ethnic group has their own music and dance. This includes the Batwa - a pygmy tribe who have been evicted from their forest home in the name of conservation, and are now effectively squatters, living on borrowed land and unable to access the mountainsides, forests and caves that were so fundamental to their culture and beliefs.
